Pressure tests on multiple
cable and pipe penetrations based on the
RISE system of Beele Engineering have shown
that these conduits are capable of withstanding
excess pressures of 2.5 bar. The pressure
tests on the multiple cable and pipe penetrations
were carried out under supervision of Det
Norske Veritas. The statements of the test
results were signed and stamped by the witnessing
DNV expert.
To perform the pressure tests,
use was made of steel conduits with flanges
for attachment to a steel pressure vessel.
The outside diameter of the steel conduit
pipes was 219 mm, the wall thickness 5.9
mm and the length 250 mm.
The RISEŽ multiple cable and pipe penetrations
were placed in the conduit pipe. The cable
penetration consisted of six Twenkaplus
0.6/1kV 5G 25RS cables with a diameter of
27 mm. The pipe penetration consisted of
three steel pipes with diameters of 22 mm,
33 mm and 88 mm, a stainless steel pipe
with a diameter of 60 mm, and two copper
pipes with diameters of 15 mm and 22 mm.
Each of the conduit pipes
was bolted to the pressure vessel; a gasket
was placed between the penetration and the
pressure vessel to prevent air from escaping.
The pressure vessel was provided with connections
for a calibrated manometer and for compressed
air supply.
To prevent movement of the cables and pipes
during the tests and to prevent air from
escaping along or through them, the cables
and pipes were passed through the pressure
vessel and securely attached (the pipes
were welded).
During the tests, the
pressure was increased by 0.5 bar every
five minutes until an excess pressure of
2.5 bar was reached after about 25 minutes.
This pressure was then maintained for five
minutes.
