RISE multi-cable penetrations
RISE multi-cable penetrations are an alternative for the casting compounds and block systems used in fire-rated and watertight bulkheads and decks. The system offers the most simple way of installation. The very limited amount of components makes this system easy to handle on site. The RISE system uses rubber insert and filler sleeves that expand to 5 times its original volume when exposed to fire. On both sides of the penetration a layer of FIWA sealant is applied.

The RISE system can be used both for vertical (deck) and horizontal (bulkhead) conduit openings. The sealing system allows cables to be ducted through conduit openings in a bent, curved or oblique way. Without any adverse impact on the sealing performance. An important feature is the possibility to add or remove cables in a later stage without disassembling the whole penetration. But there is more. With RISE no pre-engineering is needed, no special conduit frames have to be used, there are no restrictions on cable types and sizes, insulation in front of the penetration is not needed and the system can be used for the shortest possible conduit length.

RISE: the safe and simple rapid sealing system

RISE multi-cable system components

RISE multi-cable transits consist of only two components

-FRR/LEHF rubber insert sleeves
-FIWA sealant

The rubber compound of the insert sleeves has been developed for the RISE system. The rubber is known as FRR/LEHF (Fire Resistant Rubber / Low grade of expansion, Halogen Free). Exposed to fire or temperatures in excess of 200 °C, this rubber will expand to five times its original volume. During the expansion a carbonised mass is formed, which has good thermal insulation properties. The FRR/LEHF rubber is absolutely halogen free and has a low smoke and a very high oxygen index.

FIWA is a fire-resistant and water repellent sealant based on a single component silicone compound. In the event of fire or at temperatures above 200 °C the sealant expands to about 10 times its original volume. The porous mass that is formed has excellent thermal insulation properties. FIWA is absolutely halogen free and has a low smoke index, a high oxygen index and low flame spread characteristics.

Assembly instructions for bulkheads

Cables can be ducted through the conduit opening in a random order. After ducting the cables, a RISE insert sleeve is applied around each cable. The remaining free space in the conduit is then filled with RISE empty sleeves. The insert sleeves are pushed into the conduit pipe in such a way as to leave 20 mm free space at the front.

Insert sleeves with circular profiles can be applied to mark the position of insert sleeves to be used for later extensions. A 20 mm thick layer of FIWA sealant is then applied at each side of the conduit. The conduit should be overfilled because some sealant will be pushed between and into the empty sleeves during finishing.

To smooth the surface, a cloth that is sprayed with soapy water is used to press down the layer of FIWA. The FIWA sealant between the cables is pressed down and smoothed with a spatula or putty knife. When smoothing is finished a last check should be taken if sufficient sealant is applied in between the cables.

Please refer to our installation instructions or our installation video for detailed information on the installation of RISE multi-cable penetrations.

Add or remove cables

An important feature of the RISE system is the possibility to add or remove cables in a later stage without disassembling the whole penetration.

It’s so simple. Just cut away the layer of sealant at both sides of the penetration in a tapering shape. Pull the cable through one of the empty sleeves. If the empty sleeves are not fitting to the size of the cable to be ducted, a number of insert sleeves must be removed.

Install a fitting insert sleeve in the open space and pull the cable through the fitting insert sleeve that has now been installed. Refill the openings cut in the putty layer at both sides of the penetration with FIWA sealant. Press the sealant down firmly and smooth it with a damp cloth.

If future extensions of the cable set are expected, the position of the future cables is marked by means of FRR/HF circular profiles. The profiles are fitted with a RISE insert sleeve.

Please refer to our brochure for a step by step instruction on adding or removing cables in a RISE multi-cable penetration.
